Write About it Wednesday: Gratitude

How many times a day do you stop and think about what you are grateful for? We go through life not really appreciating what we have been given. Whether it is a tangible thing like good food and clean water, or an abstract emotion such as love or happiness. We are not entitled to anything that we are given the opportunity to experience during our time on this planet. I may not have the answer for who or what decides what we have, but to whoever or whatever that is I have one thing to say to you. Thank you. Thank for quiet mornings, endless smiles, and a family who loves me. I could go on forever, but here are a few (hopefully not too cliché) things that I am eternally grateful for.

First and foremost, my family. Sure, we fight and don’t always agree on everything, but they are my #1 support system. There is no way that I could be the person I am today without them. They never limit me or my personality and they know what I’m capable of and will do anything they possibly can to help me achieve my goals.

Secondly, I am thankful for all of the wonderful dogs that have been a part of my life. You don’t understand unconditional love until you reunite with your dog that you haven’t seen in months. I love you Rhodi, Itle’doo, Jazz, Sheba, and Mimi. Thank you for watching over me as I grew up and making sure I was always safe.

I am thankful for the opportunity to go to Miss Hall’s School last year. I learned so much there made so many friends that I know I will never lose. I got the chance to express my beliefs without fear of what people would think of me. If only everyone in the world was as open-minded as the girls and teachers that I met at Miss Hall’s were.

I am thankful for all of the dusks that turned into dawns. I have learned to live each day as though it was my last. Loving unapologetically, smiling even at the dull moments, and singing as loud as I can when my favorite song comes on. You have been put on this earth to be happy, and doing anything else just doesn’t make sense.

To my friends that have stuck around. I can honestly not thank you enough. Thank you for embracing my weird personality, comforting me when I was down, and being mischievous with me. Whether I met you yesterday or we have been together since the beginning. Whether we talk everyday or don’t talk enough, I am thankful for you being in my life.

I am thankful for art. I am so glad that my passion for art is as strong as it is and that I am able to express myself visually everyday. There’s something about creating beautiful things that brings joy and comfort to my life. Along with art, I am thankful for the various art teachers, especially JRo, who have proved to me that I have the ability to create anything I wish.

Now, obviously there are millions, billions, even trillions more things that I am grateful for. I encourage you to make a list of everything you are grateful for and look at it when you’re having one of those down days. Knowing all the things you have make the things that you lack feel insignificant. I hope you are all having a marvelous week and enjoying the last few weeks of warm weather until it begins to feel like winter (unless you live in one of those eternally hot places, I envy you!).

Tootlelie-dip! Peace out, enjoy life, and live the adventure!
